A couple words about advising - Early & Often
Make a plan early to make sure that you are making the correct choices to obtain a quailty education in a time effective manner.
Revalidate your plan every quarter to make sure that your plan is still inline with your interests, intent, and course offerings.
Please keep in mind that your Faculty Advisor is off contract during breaks between quarters and during Summer quarter. As well, your Faculty Advisor's work load peeks during weeks 8-10 each quarter. Plan to meet with your advisor early during each quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring) as needed to make sure all your advising needs are addressed.
My amazing co-worker Mark Westlund created and maintains an excellent website for our CIS students - CIS Digital Advisor that answers many of the common questions about our programs. It also links to many of the resources students need to access to perform common tasks such as creating an Educational Plan
Each Quarter we offer 2 or 3 group advising sessions where we discuss our various program offerings and how to create an Education Plan. It is simply not time effective to discuss these topics one on one with each student (we would not be left with time to teach our classes). So we ask that to address your initial questions about our progams you start by attending a group advising session Check the top of the page at this link CIS Digital Advisor for the date and time of the next few sessions.
The Advising Center on the second floor of the HSS Building is open five days a week, including during instructional breaks and summer. Staff and entry advisors can help you with new student information, general system navigation and login, prerequisites, academic planning, degree checks, registration and other questions. The entry advisor who works most directly with CIS students is Steve Quinn, available by appointment or for walk-ins. Call 360-475-7230 for an appointment or email him directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
