Retail Management (Certificate of Proficiency) – 48 Credits

The Retail Management Program Certificate prepares individuals to manage a variety of retail sales operations or lines of merchandise. This certificate program serves both entry level job candidates and incumbent employees. The Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC), a non-profit organization representing major food retailers, endorses the program. Their web site contains useful information concerning educational funding and the Community College Retail Management Certification  


Successful completion of this degree program earns the industry certification set forth by the WAFC.


Upon successful completion of the Retail Management Certificate of Proficiency, students will have demonstrated the ability to apply their skills and knowledge in the following ways:

  1. More fully develop and/or apply critical communications and computation skills related to a business setting.
  2. Develop a general understanding of retail management/business concepts related to sales and marketing services and/or products.
  3. 3. Explore the essential dimensions of leadership/management as they apply to business and develop an appreciation/understanding of critical ethical issues, human relations and resource concepts as they apply to general management concepts.

The Retail Management Certificate requires the student to take specific courses. There are no elective requirement courses for the certificate. The required courses are identified through the following link:

 A similar course of study is offered at other vocational schools participating in the state.


Upon successful completion of the following courses, students will need to complete a graduation application approved by a Business Management Program Advisor.
