Course Cmptr 172 - PC Hardware Basics
Course Description: This course is designed to give the
student a basic knowledge of hardware and software
configurations. It includes the installation of various
peripheral devices as well as basic system hardware components.
Course Objectives: After completing this course, with
the appropriate study, the student will know, apply, analyze and
evaluate the technical configuration and management of micro
computing and networking hardware:
Hard disk drive-installation, formatting, configuration
System boards, components and CPU’s
Peripherals and their appropriate connectors-floppy drives,
various cards, parallel and serial
CD-ROMS; CDRW and DVD technologies
Memory installation, management and upgrades (RAM & ROM)
Modems and different types of internetworking and communication
layers
UPS and power management systems
How PC systems, peripherals and extraneous devices all work
together
Management of resources
Boot process
Protect data
Utility software
How to support Windows various platforms
Diagnostics and how they work
