Course Cmptr 172 - PC Hardware Basics

Course Description: This course is designed to give the student a basic knowledge of hardware and software configurations. It includes the installation of various peripheral devices as well as basic system hardware components.

Course Objectives: After completing this course, with the appropriate study, the student will know, apply, analyze and evaluate the technical configuration and management of micro computing and networking hardware:


Hard disk drive-installation, formatting, configuration
System boards, components and CPU’s
Peripherals and their appropriate connectors-floppy drives, various cards, parallel and serial
CD-ROMS; CDRW and DVD technologies
Memory installation, management and upgrades (RAM & ROM)
Modems and different types of internetworking and communication layers

How PC systems, peripherals and extraneous devices all work together
