Eavesdropping on a telephone call, known as wiretapping, is illegal in the United States unless a court order has been issued. Yet, what about sniffing? Is it illegal to sniff packets as they travel across the Internet? What about an organization that uses a sniffer to secretly monitor employee activity? Should that be considered as ethical? Using the Internet and other sources, research the legality and ethical issues that surround packet sniffers. What are your feelings about their use both by insiders of an organization, as well as outsiders? If you were crafting a law about packet sniffers, what would it say?

Rank the sites within each category, with 5 being the best and 1 the least desirable site. Create a one-line description of the site that would be helpful to a user.

Forensic Tools -

Use Google or other Web search engines to locate Web sites that promote computer forensic tools. Locate reviews of these tools on the Web. Create a chart that lists the tool, the type of data that it searches for, its features, the cost, etc. Which would you recommend if you could only purchase one tool?

Using good APA format, complete the Activities portion of all five labs from Chapter 12 in your Lab Manual for Security+ Guide to Network Security Fundamentals, 2nd Ed. The group project does not include the "Review Questions" at the end of each lab. I would suggest assigning either a portion of each lab to members of your group, or splitting up the labs amongst the members of your group. This is an early group assignment, so you should get started on it as soon as possible. Make use of the group collaboration resources of BlackBoard. This includes a group chatroom, a group discussion board, and a members-only virtual classroom for each group. Make use of student e-mail, if necessary. This assignment is due no later than midnight on Saturday. There is no minimum length to this assignment, but you must answer all questions fully to receive the full points for this assignment. Each member must also turn in a peer evaluation form before the project deadline. The blank peer evaluation form can be found on the "Professors Online" website for this class.
