Course CIS 242 - Microsoft LAN Administration II

Course Description:

This hands-on course, along with the MCTS Guide to Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 Network Infrastructure Configuration, provides in-depth coverage of the 70-642 certification exam objectives and focuses on the skills needed to manage a Windows Server 2008 network.  After finishing this course, you'll have an in-depth knowledge of Windows Server 2008, TCP/IP networking, Domain Name System (DNS), and related services, such as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), File Services, Printers and Print Services, Network Policy and Access Services, security, and managing the Windows Server 2008 network infrastructure.  Several new features of Windows Server 2008 are also covered including Server Core, Windows Backup, and Server Manager.

Course Learning Objectives:

  • Prepare a Windows Server 2008 server to offer network services such as DNS, DHCP, Windows Deployment Services, file and print services, Routing and Remote Access Services, IPSec, Firewall and other security services to clients on a network.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the configuration of networking and networking protocols such as IPv4 and IPv6 as applied to a Windows Server 2008 infrastructure.
  • Demonstrate how services are configured and managed using Microsoft Management Console, Server Manager, the Event Viewer, the Reliability and Performance Console, and other tools.
  • Identify the role that the Windows Server Backup utility plays in providing availability and security in a Windows Server 2008 infrastructure.
  • Prepare for the applicable Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification examination
