A couple words about advising: Early and Often
Make a plan early to make sure that you are making the correct choices to obtain a quailty education in a timely, effective manner.
Revalidate your plan every quarter to make sure that your plan is still inline with your timeline, interests, intent, and course offerings.
You will be assigned a faculty advisor to whom you will submit your educational plan for approval. Please keep in mind that your Faculty Advisor is off contract during breaks between quarters and during Summer quarter. As well, your Faculty Advisor's work load peaks during weeks 8-10 each quarter. Contact your advisor early during each quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring) as needed to make sure all your advising needs are addressed.
The CIS Digital Advisor answers many of the common questions about our programs. It also links to many of the resources students need to perform common tasks such as creating an Educational Plan.
Each quarter we offer group advising sessions where we discuss our various program offerings and how to create an Education Plan. We encourage every CIS student to attend one or more to address your initial questions about our progams. Attending a CIS group advising is the best place to start your advising journey. You can find times, dates, and locations for upcoming sessions via the CIS Digital Advisor (see link on this page).
The Advising Center on the second floor of the HSS Building is open five days a week, including during instructional breaks and summer. Staff and entry advisors can help you with new student information, general system navigation and login, prerequisites, academic planning, degree checks, registration and other questions. The entry advisor who works most directly with CIS students is Steve Quinn, available by appointment or for walk-ins. Call 360-475-7230 for an appointment or email him directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
