Human geographers work in government agencies and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) as well as private corporations.  A large percentage of urban and regional planners are geographers, as are environmental planners. They analyze issues such as the rate of population growth, environmental constraints on new housing such as soil stability, what sorts of infrastructure problems will be created by new growth, whether there is a suitable mix of housing types and housing affordability. There are geographers in FEMA, emergency planning agencies, tourism industries, business development, real-estate development.  Human geographers also work in developing countries and are involved in issues such as sustainable development.  If you are Interested in this branch of geography, consider taking courses in human, economic and regional geography, GIS and in related fields, such as political science, public administration, sociology, writing and economics.
